Description
Product Overview
The EC-MEA6 is a large-area, temperature-controlled MEA electrolyzer featuring a purple thermal-control interlayer for heating and water cooling. Shear-enhanced multi-serpentine flow channels support reactant distribution and scalable electrolysis studies under controlled thermal conditions.
Key Features
- Integrated Thermal-Control Zone: The purple interlayer provides a dedicated thermal-control zone with heater rods for heating, thermocouples for temperature monitoring, and support for water cooling.
- Large-Area Titanium MEA Platform: High-purity titanium electrode plates provide a corrosion-resistant platform for large-area MEA testing and scale-up studies.
- Shear-Enhanced Serpentine Flow Field: Multi-serpentine return-flow channels promote reactant transport and flow distribution while helping reduce internal resistance.

Performance Validation
A 400 cm² MEA configuration was operated at 40 A with an Ag-NP cathode and an IrOₓ-ALK anode. The SGL 39BB+ configuration maintained stable cell voltage for approximately 300 h, highlighting the platform’s capability for large-area, high-current, and extended-duration electrolysis testing.

Related Published Application
Non-Isothermal Thermal Management in MEA CO₂ Electrolysis: Li et al. evaluated a custom two-electrode MEA CO₂ electrolyzer using TA-2 titanium plates with serpentine flow channels and internal water channels for heating and cooling. Under the non-isothermal 60 °C condition, the maximum CO partial current density reached 243.6 mA cm⁻², approximately 13% higher than the corresponding isothermal case. The thermal-management concept was further demonstrated in a 100 cm² device, where a stable 20 °C temperature difference was maintained.
