Description
Product Overview
The EC-RM3S is an upgraded version of the EC-RM3 in situ Raman Spectroelectrochemical Cell. It retains the membrane-separated three-chamber configuration and direct Raman access of the EC-RM3, while incorporating a serpentine flow channel within the gas chamber. The extended gas flow path increases the contact time between the reactant gas and the catalyst layer, allowing the gas to participate more effectively in the electrochemical reaction.
Key Features
- Serpentine Gas Flow Channel: Extends the gas flow path across the working electrode for controlled reactant delivery.
- Extended Gas-Catalyst Contact: Increases gas residence time to enhance interaction between the reactant gas and catalyst layer.
- Enhanced Gas-Fed Interface Control: Supports more effective gas participation during operando Raman investigation of electrochemical interfaces.

Published Application Example
In Situ SERS Monitoring of CO₂ Electroreduction: The cell used in this study, supplied by Beyond Battery® under product code EC-RM3S, a gas-fed flow-cell configuration, was used to investigate copper electrodes with different Cu(100)/(111) grain-boundary densities during CO₂ electroreduction in neutral electrolyte. Catalyst-coated gas-diffusion layers served as the working electrodes, with Ag/AgCl and platinum wire as the reference and counter electrodes. In situ SERS tracked Cu–OH and adsorbed *CO species, linking hydroxyl-rich grain boundaries to enhanced ethylene selectivity.

Demonstrated EC-RM3S Capabilities:
- Operando SERS monitoring in a gas-fed flow-cell configuration.
- Compatibility with catalyst-coated gas-diffusion electrodes.
- Tracking of Cu–OH and adsorbed *CO surface species.
Product Identification Note: EC-RM3S is the Beyond Battery product code for the same cell reported in the cited publications. The original articles use a different product designation.
